Computers home

This page is intended to give an overview of my knowledge of all things computing. At the moment the details are brief and I intend to develop this page soon.

I have been interested in computers almost as long as I can remember and this dates back to when I lived in the USA and first experienced such computers as Apple II and Atari's. Other early experiences including writing some simple applications and games were on the BBC Micro and ZX Spectrum. About this time I also took a GCSE O-level in computing studies at school. Following this basic education I was awarded a Diploma in Computing by the Open University as part of my degree. For this I studied courses in relational databases, object oriented computing and software systems and their development.

During this time my interest continued, as it still does. I have owned and used a large variety of Apple Macintoshes and PC's machines on which I have used a huge selection of applications over the years. I have managed and set up a number of small networks of both Macs and PCs. For a number of years I unofficially supported (until there was an IT department) the Macintosh users and in particular the use of the CAD software that was used. Latterly (officially this time) this included developing guidelines for the use of VectorWorks and template construction for the various design departments at Imagination (London).

A summary of some of the software and operating systems I am familiar with is below

  • Apple Macintosh operating systems 7.0 thru the most recent release of Tiger OS X 10.4.3
  • Windows operating systems DOS thru Windows XP
  • MiniCad 3 thru VectorWorks 11 including Spotlight plug-in CAD applications
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe GoLive
  • Macromedia DreamWeaver (MX2004 used to create this site)
  • Lightwright (Lighting Designer's specialist software)

Additionally I have also used in the past FileMaker Pro and AutoCad.
